: now live this is nbc 5 news. 5 >>> .it is designed to give arlington a much desired downtown area and the rest of north texass a state ofte the art t multipurpose arena. >> the new college park center and district is being built in arlington right now and it a is nearing completion. tiwe get a preview of the new edition. >> reporte let's start with the numbers. $158 million that's the investment, the cost. 27,000 square 27feet, that will bebe the available retail space. 600 beds for the residence halls not to mention,000 the number of arena seats in the brand new college park center. >> it's a state of the art facility it has everything here. not just aju basketball floor or here, it has practiceic courts and academic center. >> reporter: the new arena t on the uta campus will double as a concert venue for bigue name artists. >> it's high tech. it's going to be fun. >> reporter: if it's not here, you might be able to find it across the street or at least whasat will be a street. >> this is arlington's first mixed use development. >> reporter: retail, restaurants and apartments as well asl an 1800 public parubking space garage. an $18 million project footed byte the city. the new college park district hopes to give arlington the downtown feel that some suggest that it lacks. >> there was a time when there weren't r estaurants and entertainment venues downtown and places to live. now allno over the university you're seeing just new residences. >> reporter: but officials are already thinking beyond tin the uta campus and the city of he y arlington. >> this arena is really meant for the entire region.re the north centralen texas region doioesn't have a lot o lf mid size arenas that are good for concerts, commencements on the me other activities. we'd love to host aos presidential debate here. i think it's going tok be unique in our region. >> looks cool. that arena is scheduled to be completed early next year. the first uta baskeall game there on february 1st. the first concert is expected to be held in march of 2012 and the college parkll downtown area is set for completion next august. >>> today is the last day you can walk inside the women's museum at fai rt park. nbc 5 was there when it opened 11 years ago with interactive displays about women'swo achievements in science,e, politics, sports and po entertainment. but the museum fell on hard financial times and announced earlier this year it would be forced to close. the collection of pieces will be returned to their original owners. >>> in one dallas neighborhood people are struggling just to survive. the ups and downs of daily life oftenn ignoring their physical life. over the years it has taken a toll on theto community. the fraser section of south dallas could be the b sickest neighborhood i
