sunday is national cancer survivors' day where millions of survivors gather across the country in their own community to celebrate life. in san diego, it takes place at green hospital. >> that's right. part of that is the sharing of new information about the latest technology available to prevent the disease. one of the new pieces of information is
breast specific gamma imaging, used to give doctors additional information to the traditional forms of
breast cancer like mammograms and mris. >> it just approaches imaging the
breast tissue in a completely different way, uses a small amount of radio active material taken up at a higher rate by tumor cells versus normal
breast tissue. it essentially lights up
breast tumors. >> dense
breasts, those at high risk for
breast cancer, implants, hard to read mammograms or other traditional forms of testing. >> this is new enough that most women will not have heard of it. i think it's important that they be aware that there are some new choices out there. it's also important, actually, to get the word out to doctors even, because it's that new. >> for more information on the bsgi, cancer survivor's day is june 7th from 11:00 to 1:00, including information and a musical performance.
