it looks like the amite firefighter accused of arson may have set more fires than authorities originally thought. 23-year-old lee widas remains behind bars.... we're told widas has confessed to starting six fires, investigators have linked him to eight more. all the fires were in the amite area, dating back to november of last year. widas faces 14 counts of arson. he's been suspended from the force. some high profile legal help is on the way for the angola three. one of the lawyers who defended oj simpson is looking into the case. they met on the capital step with robert wilkerson of the " angola three." wilkerson was released after being wrongly convicted of killing another inmate. they're hoping to free the other two members of the " angola three" who are still behind bars -- herman wallace and albert woodfox. the two were convicted of murdering a corrections officer. they've spent upwards of 30 years in solitary confinement. george.. thank you jim. robert wilkerson was in solitary confinement at angola state penitentiary for almost thirty years-- for a crime he did not commit. wilkerson was part of a group known as the " angola three". now he and his lawyers want to prove the innocence of the other two. as wafb's caroline moses reports their efforts brought in federal officials today. wilkerson: i did 31 years total. 29 in solitary confinement. robert wilkerson is one of the so- called angola three. one of three men placed in solitary confinement for more than three decades.. for a crime he says they did not commit... killing a white prison guard in 1972. wilkerson: my soul cried while i was down there. wilkerson says he, herman wallace and albert woodfox were targeted because of their blatant activism with the black panther party. he says they spoke out against alleged rapes, stabbings, segregation and murders at angola state penitentiary. in 2001, wilkerson's case was overturned.. and he was set free from angola, and from warden burl cane. wilkerson: i walked out of prison in spite of his saying i would die at angola, my grave on point lookout number two waiting for me. wilkerson is free of angola...but says angola is not yet free of him. he says he and his attorneys have to get the other two members of the angola three out of solitary confinement... and eventually out of prison. fleming: the state fights these cases at every turn. they just are not capable of admitting mistakes were made. attorney scott fleming was the first to believe the angola three's story ten years ago. he read a letter from one of the men, then traveled to louisiana to meet them. he's been fighting for their release ever since. fleming: this case is just emblematic of the fact that we're addicted to putting people in prison and throwing away the key, no matter what the facts are. new orleans state representative cedric richmond agrees. he believes these three men were innocent scapegoats in a time of national unrest. richmond: we don't want to be in the national press and have another jena movement. richmond suggests governor bobby jindal pardon the other two men now.. to avoid another black eye for louisiana's image... and to keep federal funding for the state prison system. richmond is confident the other two members of the angola three will be released from solitary confinement within the next few weeks. he says when federal judiciary representative john conyers sees the conditions at angola.. he will not approve. we also talked with warden cain today about the comment wilkerson says he made. cain said quote.. lawmakers have pushed harder for donelon to release the remaing emails since wrapping the first special session. they say if he didn't ... he'd be going against the state's tougher new ethics laws. jon fairbanks ... nbc 33 news. to date ... donelon's office has turned over 25- thousand company e-mails to the legislative auditor. lawmakers are working to free the two members of the angola three. representative cedric richmond says the three men were targeted because they were activists and trying to improve conditions at angola state penetintiary. herman wallace and albert woodfox were convicted of murdering a prison guard. robert king, who also goes by the name robert wilkerson, was found guilty of killing another inmate. all spent upwards of 30 years in solitary confinement. wilkerson's conviction was overturned in 2001. now he and representative richmond are working to get the governor to pardon the other two men. "i know i was innocent i was convicted of a crime that i didn't commit. i had a life sentence life in louisiana you have life without the possibility of parole probation or suspension of sentence i knew i was going to die there if i didn't get out. " representative richmond said he'll call a special committee during the session to work on getting woodfox and wallace released. a former employee of the east baton rouge sheriff's office is facing a slew of charges, and today he was taken into custody. 33-year-old ivan robertson has been charged with computer fraud, felony theft and illegal possession of stolen things. robertson resigned from the sheriff's office last month, and detectives say this past saturday -- he accessed sensitive information on the sheriff's office server that he set up. today -- when robertson was arrested at his his home -- deputies say they confiscated laptops, computers and other sheriff's department property .. along with ten-thousand dollars worth of software. toxicology results show the driver who caused a three car crash that claimed the life of young girl-- was legally intoxicated. 52-year old robert newman registered a blood-alcohol content of point- 1-3 on a toxicology exam.
