in buffalo. blowing, swirling snow is causing some white-out conditions. and its expected to keep snowing - all this week in buffalo. students at one nassau school are really in the holiday spirit. students at the solomon schechter day school in jericho built this 12 foot menorah entirely out of legos. then they actually lit it - to celebrate hanukkah. tonight marks the 7th night. meanwhile some long islanders are working hard to bring the holiday season overseas to our troops. yesterday children from several li schools joined with military families at dee's nursery in oceanside. with the help of shipping company d-h-l, they sent 500 trees, menorahs, and other gifts to kennedy airport. from there the gifts will ship to afghanistan. the holiday season - overseas. so some long islanders are sending them everything they need, to celebrate in style. news 12's ken grinball has the story. the next stop for these trees is iraq,afghanistan and bahrain. five-hundred-trees, menorahs, cards and other gifts have been donated. for the seventh year dee's nursery and florist has donated trees. dhl express is taking the trees to jfk airport, where they will be crated and sent on their way. you guys are like super heros. children from several schools were there to lend their support along with veterans and current members of the military. my girl scout troop came here yesterday to pack boxes to send to the troops. yo u live a in a mud hut over there. anything you get from people is amazing. i t's not just us. it's many members of the community along with dhl, we all put together to support the military. the first leg will go through our central hub in the united kingdom. from there it will go to our central hub in bahrain and from there it will go to afghanistan. the dhl pilot says he'll follow santa's route to get the gifts to the troops. we go up the east coast of the united states, up over newfoundland across the atlantic ocean. there's a lot of work to do here. more than 500 trees have to be load on these trucks. this is amazing. in oceanside ken grimball news 12 long island the trees and other gifts had a police motorcade escort to jfk airport - as santa flew above in a dhl helicopter.
