getting ready for its final flight. a jumbo jet from space center in florida and it is headed tond the smithsonian. the first of the retired shuttles to be placedtl in ala i museum. >>um> a warning for north texas homeowners a hocolleyville man is still recovering astfter a copperhead snake bit him in his own backyard.ba the victim will recover, butec the injuries were veryer painful. more north texas homeowners may run into this very same danger. >> this is the time of year that we always get the most calls. >> reporter: dr. john campbell am at uta says snake season typically starts in the early spring and goes until the endnt of summer and wasn't surprised to hear a copper head attacked a d colleyville man as he was reaching for a hose in his lawnis box. >> during the day, d most often, you'll find them din dark hiding places and at these hiding places tend to beac a little bit moist so much thehe better. be they like to stay in moist places. >> reporter: in fact, you'll find them in any kind of brush around your home. >> copperheads, especially, like to hide in brush piles and other piles of debris and any place that they can get g up underneath and hide by day. >> reporter: and are one of a handful of venomous snakes here in north texas to be watchful ch for. >>fo snake venom is toxic and it causes damage in multiple areas, usually mostly local. such as if you get bitten on the finger. your finger can turn black, swell up. it's possible to even lose a finger. >> reporter: dr. david smith saysys he's seen three bites so b far this year in an typical icyear, he sees around nine. last year, he saw 21. and won't be surprisedis if he sees just as many thisan year. >> no, i won't be surprised at all. >> reporter: nbc 5, ft. worth. >> be careful out there. smith says antivenom is usually successful in treating snake bites. the oeld method sometimes involved slicing a patient's skin to eleaveiate the swelling. >>> a picnic p to celebrate national volunteer week turned into a huge surprise for twowo charities. these two coach buses were gifts. they gave the two groups the keys today at rangers ballpark. both say they have plenty of uses for these buses. transporting volunteers and helping in disaster relief situations. >>> beautiful day out there. hard to come into work. i had to wander around the parking lot and bask in the sun for a little while after i ft fini shed preparing all my graphics. let's take a look a out there this evening and off to the south, maybe not quite as pretty. we had storms along the texas coast, although most of that has now moved off shore. andan you can see first alert
