university of alberta student is finding her situation trying. >> lynda: the university is forcing her to move. shane jones has this story. >> carolina is coming into the coal, her furnace was shut down in august by her landlord,
university of alberta. after being in the house for three years they have told her to move. >> initially the reason i was given is the furnace was unsafe. when i let them know it's quite economical to change the furnace and it's very quick, i received a note that said well we're not going to replace the furnace and not going to rent the house any longer. >> cambre is upset with the way they handled the situation. >> i was freezing for a week before i got heat. initially the response was you can't get heat so hurry up and move. >> the furnace 100 years old is quite a site. >> it's a gas furnace. well there's a ring of fire in there. >> and that's one of the reasons the university is saying this home, along with two neighbouring one's are no longer safe. >> one is circa 1925 and it's becoming increasingly expensive and difficult for the university to maintain them, to maintain a comfortable environment. >> dawson said he understands the frustration with having to move in the middle of a term but they are doing all they can to make relocation go smooth for cambre. meanwhile they aren't commenting on the homes. >> i think it's premature to speculate we will have to look at the engineering studies when they come back and just determine what the best course of action will be. >> ten spots in the three homes no longer available for student residents. a situation the university fully understands. >> absolutely, we are very aware of the number of students on the waiting list to get into our accommodations so it's a great concern to the university. >> but that's little comfort to cambre who must be out by the end of the month. >> lynda: the university has found cambre another room to rent and her rent will remain the same until april. >> gord: n.a.i.t.'s heavy equipment programme have received a boost. trains apprentices to work on
