tour. advance illinois, a group co-chaired by former governor jim edgar and former u-s secretary of commerce bill daley, has been touring the state gathering information on school reform. a report on their reform recommendations will be presented ahead of the upcoming school year. the town hall meeting begins tonight at 5-30 in the mendota civic center. there's just two weeks left for illinois lawmakers to work on a budget deal. there is little agreement on how the state can close its 12-billion- dollar budget deficit. some lawmakers say a tax increase and budget cuts are the answer, but other's argue that still more is needed to deal with the shortfall. a budget must be delivered by may 31st, though top lawmakers say they'd like to have things wrapped-up in springfield by the 29th. the recession will set the health and well-being of children and families back decades. that's according to the 2009 child well-being index and special focus report. it says all progress made in the economic, health and education areas will be set back to 1975. poor families headed by single women will be hit hardest. the study was commissioned by the foundation for child development. glen oak avenue in peoria will be closed for a few weeks due to crane work for methodist's parking deck. glen oak will be closed between main street and hamilton boulevard for two weeks. after that..parts hamilton boulevard will be closed for about four months due to a major phase of the methodist- hamilton boulevard project. lane reductions will be in effect this morning on the cedar street bridge over the former peoria and pekin union railway switchyard. those reductions will start at eight this morning for bridge maintenance. crews will wrap up thier work for the day at four this afternoon. starting today, the northbound lane of knoxville avenue south of pioneer parkway will be closed. the lane should be re-opened by tomorrow. we're giving away our second
