the state would issue hundred of millions of dollars in bonds. that money would then be used for road construction and flood repair. the state would then repay the bonds over the next 20 years with state gambling revenues. a huge chunk of iowa's roadwork will be paid for with federal stimulus dollars. newschannel 8's amanda lewis is looking at what all of these construction jobs mean for iowa's economy.. and for you, the driver. navigating iowa's byways this summer promises to be an adventure. never before has the state seen so much road work going on at once. but, it's great news for anyone whose ever considered a job in construction. ácarsá enjoy it while you can. the open road.. the lack of orange cones and vests. because your summer plans are about to hit a roadblock. :28 were going to have the biggest construction season in iowa that we've ever had. it's already begun on the east mixmaster. but, projects include bridge replacement and renovations, improvements to city streets, county roads, and state highways. 17:16 you have to go down to one lane roads so that really sucks. 18:20 headache. álaughsá long waits. 19:35 i'm not looking forward to it at all. driving through it may not be easy.. but finding a job in iowa road construction .. might be. the associated general contractors of iowa's website lists them all. bortle says they number in the thousands. 6:13 through our contractors there's going to be a lot of construction jobs open all the way across the state. a lot of the work will be done in eastern and western iowa. but, these central iowa counties are all slated for some kind of construction this summer. if your county is not included .. chances are.. their projects weren't "shovel ready" 5:53 those who had projects on the shelf ready to go had a better chance of getting their projects let. 339-million dollars worth of construction.. already underway. the outcome could be worth the pain.. for some anyway. 3:18 hopefully they'll notice a lot more smoother highways this coming winter. 17:53 i'm happy they are fixing them. 19:12 we need the works done so i guess you're going to have to deal with it. 19:49 i think i might stay home. if you'd like to see a full list of what's being done in which counties.. we have a link to the dot's website. we also have a link to those construction jobs.. it's all at kcci.com under newslinks. kevin, the dot is once again asking drivers to pre-plan their trips, slow down, and watch for construction workers who may not be watching for them. one road construction job that must happen immediately is along interstate 80 in leclaire. the eastbound lanes of i-80 on the river bridge at leclaire have been shutdown after a crack was found in a beam. parts of the 43 year old beam have already been torn up. and eastbound traffic has been rerouted. it could be weeks before the bridge is repaired and completely reopened for business. a 17 year old casey boy is recovering in des moines - after someone drove by and shot him in the back! the shooting happened yesterday afternoon. the guthrie county sheriff says it appears the teen was shot with a small caliber weapon. so far, no arrests have been made.
