Critical Mention Expands Spanish Language TV Coverage to Top 50 Hispanic Markets

Critical Mention has doubled the number of Spanish language TV stations monitored on its Software-as-a-Service broadcast intelligence platform, expanding to the top 50 U.S. Hispanic markets and providing PR and marketing professionals a comprehensive tool to track coverage in real-time.

The new stations will be activated during the multicultural marketing industry event Hispanicize 2012 in Miami, April 10-13.

“TV consumption among Hispanic consumers is sharply higher than the general population and, unlike English-language TV, audiences are still growing,” said Dave Armon, president of Critical Mention. “There is strong demand from Hispanic marketing professionals to monitor for earned, paid and owned media mentions, as well as for competitive intelligence.”

The Hispanic population in the United States now surpasses 50 million people and grew by 43% in the last decade, accounting for about 1 out of 6 Americans, according to the Census Bureau.

About 75% of Hispanics live in the nine states that have long-standing Hispanic populations — Arizona, California, Colorado,Florida, Illinois, New Mexico, New Jersey, New York and Texas.  That figure dropped from 81% in 2000, indicating the population has begun dispersing to other parts of the country, particularly in the Southeast, according to Pew Research.

Critical Mention addressed the newly expanded Hispanic media footprint by doubling the number of Spanish outlets it monitors in all those markets as well as regions with growing Hispanic populations like Philadelphia, Seattle, Atlanta, Portland and Raleigh-Durham.

Pew’s research on media consumption habits of Hispanic consumers living in the United States revealed newspapers lost circulation in 2010 while television continued to grow – with the leading Spanish network now equaling the size of the three major English-language broadcast networks.
